Time Management for Busy Moms

|

I don’t have time. If you are like me and have found yourself saying just that, here are my 5 tips for time management for busy moms that have helped me find more time in my day:

  1. Wake up earlier than your kids: This may sound like torture, but trust me, it’s worth it. Waking up just 30 minutes earlier than your little ones will give you some much-needed alone time to drink your coffee in peace, meditate, or do a quick workout. Plus, you’ll feel like a superhero for getting a head start on the day before the kids even wake up.
  2. Schedule everything: I’m talking about everything. From work deadlines to doctor appointments to soccer practice, write it all down in a planner or digital calendar like Google Calendar. Bonus points for color-coding and using stickers. Not only will you stay organized, but you’ll also feel like a fancy executive with a personal assistant (who happens to be you).
  3. Outsource what you can: There’s no shame in asking for help. As someone who tried to do it all myself for years and was exhausted and burnt out most of the time, I can tell you that this should be an area of priority for you. Consider hiring a house cleaner, ordering groceries online, or delegating tasks to your partner or kids. Think of it as a way to free up time for the things that really matter, like binge-watching Bridgerton or taking a bubble bath.
  4. Habit Stack: Take 2 or more things and accomplishing them at the same time. Yes, we all know that multitasking is a myth, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it strategically. For example, you can listen to audiobooks or podcasts while commuting or folding laundry, or take work calls while going for a walk. Just make sure you’re not sacrificing quality time with your family or your sanity in the process.
  5. Take breaks guilt-free: Mom-guilt is real and must be addressed. So, repeat after me: breaks are not a luxury, they are a necessity. Whether it’s a quick power nap, a yoga class, or a coffee date with a friend, take time for yourself without feeling guilty. Remember, a happy mom is a better mom (and employee, and wife, and friend…you get the idea).

Does time management for busy moms actually work? YES! I admit it has taken me years to really rid myself of the mom-guilt when I would take time for myself. I can credit a really amazing friend who helped me understand that to be the best mother, wife and friend I desired to be, it starts with taking care of myself. It wasn’t easy for me. So, even if you can just start implementing one of the 5 time management tips for busy moms, that’s progress. You’ve got this mama!
